Visitors flock to Sukhna exhibition on avifauna
CHANDIGARH: It was a pictorial nature treat for walkers and visitors at the Sukhna lake on Sunday as the Chandigarh
Most of the visitors were astounded by the fact that Chandigarh region was home to more than 400 species of birds and were absolutely captivated by the diversity of avifauna in the region.
Members of the Chandigarh Bird Club and bird watchers of Punjab and Haryana also participated in the competition as well as the exhibition. A total 78 photographs were received in the competition while 126 were put up for display only.
Vikas Sharma’s picture won the first prize, Opneet Singh’s picture was adjudged second and Arvind Sayal’s won third prize. Tarika Sandhu and Gursimrat Singh won the consolation prizes. The competition was judged by Navneet Saxena and Kulbhushan Kanwar.
Devendra Dalai, chief conservator of forests, and T C Nautiyal, conservator of forests, Chandigarh, along with M S Sekhon, Rima Dhillon, Narbir Kahlon, Sarabjit Kaur, Rajive Das, Amandeep Singh, Mahesh Garg, Vikas Shama, Parveen Malhotra, Prabhat Bhatti, Geeta Goswami, Subhash Sapru and other Chandigarh Bird Club members were present at the exhibition.
The event witnessed huge footfall as all joggers, walkers, Sunday visitors and tourists flocked to the event. Members of the Chandigarh Bird Club also undertook an awareness campaign and answered visitors’ queries.

A photography competition was also organized to mark the occasion.
