Veterans attend seminar on cyber safety and online fraud awareness

Chandigarh: Over a 100 veterans and their families attended a seminar on cyber safety titled "Operation Cyber Secure: Defending Yourself Against Online Threats". It was organised by Gyan Setu Think Tank and Chandigarh Citizens Foundation in collaboration with ICICI Bank. The session focused on equipping ex-servicemen with awareness and practical tools to protect themselves from the increasing incidents of online fraud.The seminar opened with a welcome address by Lt Gen KJ Singh (Retd), who underscored the importance of digital vigilance in everyday life. Maj Gen Ajeet Bajpai (retd), who has extensive experience in ICT, information warfare, and cyber operations, delivered the keynote address outlining emerging cyber threats and preventive measures.Gen VP Malik (retd), former Chief of Army Staff, attended as chief guest and said security today extends beyond physical borders into cyberspace, where awareness and caution serve as the first line of defence.Speakers, including S Dildeep Singh and inspectors Eram Rizvi and Virender Singh, discussed common forms of cyber fraud such as phishing, fake investment apps, and fraudulent customer care numbers. They shared real-life case studies and explained procedures for reporting cybercrime and seeking police assistance.Representing ICICI Bank, Amandeep Rai shared tips on secure digital banking and outlined the bank's efforts to promote safe online practices.The seminar concluded with an interactive session and high tea. It was the fifth event in Gyan Setu Think Tank's cyber security series and received positive feedback from the veteran community for spreading awareness about safe online behaviour.
