UK leader urges young indians to vote as elections approach
Amritsar: Emphasising the participation of the youth in the elections, Indian Overseas Congress leader Mohamed Irshath on Friday called on the young Indians to recognise the power they hold in shaping the country's democratic future.Irshath, who serves as general secretary (Europe), Indian Overseas Congress, arrived here from the United Kingdom on Friday.
He said the youth of India carried unmatched energy and influence, yet many remained disconnected from the electoral process. Irshath said he planned to tour across the nation to interact directly with the young people, understand their concerns, and motivate them to exercise their right to vote, especially in regions where youth participation traditionally remained low."Youth hold the real energy of this nation. My aim is to listen to them, learn from them, and inspire them to take part in democracy beyond discussions and opinions," he said.As part of this outreach, Irshath said a small survey would also be conducted to gather data on youth awareness, engagement levels, and the reasons behind declining interest in polling. He further said elections in Punjab were approaching next year and the survey would help the party understand the issues concerning the youth.Highlighting the role of the diaspora, he opined that Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) could play a key role in shaping young minds by sharing global experiences, democratic values, and civic responsibility.According to Irshath, NRIs can help bridge gaps in awareness and encourage informed decision-making among youth back home.He stressed that young Indians were not just the future but the present force of the country. "Democracy becomes meaningful only when youth participate with awareness and responsibility. Your vote gives direction to the nation," he saidy, while addressing the young voters.MSID:: 126565924 413 |
