KHADOOR SAHIB: Parents of jailed Waris Punjab De (WPD) president Amritpal Singh along with their team opened their election office at Goindwal Sahib road in Khadoor Sahib on Tuesday.
"With suggestion from the sangat, Paramjit Kaur Khalra, wife of slain human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, has been appointed as the election in-charge of Amritpal's campaign," said Amritpal's father Tarsem Singh. He said similar offices will be opened in all the nine assembly constituencies to monitor the election campaign.
Earlier, all of them paid obeisance at Akal Takht and offered prayers for the 'Chardi Kalan' of Amritpal and proceeded for Tarn Taran, where they paid obeisance at gurdwara before continuing to Khadoor Sahib.
Amritpal has announced to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Khadoor Sahib constituency as an independent candidate. Perturbed by Amritpal's candidacy, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which had nominated former MLA and chief parliamentary secretary Virsa Singh Valtoha from the constituency, contemplated over neutralising Amritpal's impact and reaching a compromise with him.
On Monday, Valtoha met parents of Amritpal and prominent members of the team Amritpal, suggesting to them to have a rethink over their decision.
Tarsem denied having received any message or invitation from Akalis so far following their meeting. Sources said the discussion between SAD and Team Amritpal was still going on.
When asked whether Amritpal's wife would join the election campaign, he said "Yes, she will also be coming soon."
