Tanwar: Hry govt misleading people on power situation

Chandigarh: The state head of AAP campaign committee and former Sirsa MP Ashok Tanwar on Friday accused the BJP-JJP government of making misleading statements about the power situation in Haryana. Tanwar was speaking to mediapersons about the AAP’s launch of statewide Bijli Andolan, which would be kicked off by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann from Panchkula on Sunday. “ Haryana claims to be supplying more than 10,000 MW electricity dilay whereas its own production of not more than 3,000 MW. A major portion of the supply comes from short term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the BJP’s corporate friends. Hence, one can understand the nexus,’’ he said. “Why it is taking an exorbitant delay in starting the nuclear power plant in Fatehabad, why is it so that government has become a mute spectator to shifting of 800 MW power project from Yamunanagar to Jharkhand,” he questioned. “AAP is committed to provide free and round the clock power to all, especially to the farming community, hence the Bijli Andolan. And, this would be AAP’s informal launch of campaign for Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha polls as well,” he added. About the Andolan, state president Sushil Gupta said that there has been an acute shortage of power in state. “The BJP-led government has failed to set even a single power plant in Haryana during the last nine years. The coalition government is also seeking to shift a power plant from Haryana to Jharkhand, which will add to the problems,” he said. Gupta added that now farmers are getting merely 8 hours electricity in village, which is insufficient to irrigate the fields at a time of paddy crop season. Passing a comment on announcement for unmarried men's pension made by chief minister Khattar, Gupta said that government should provide them jobs so that one may get their daughters married with them.
