JALANDAR: Five members of a family, including three kids, were killed after their house caught fire on Sunday late night in Avtar Nagar locality of Jalandhar in Punjab.
Only one woman from the family escaped unhurt, while one person is seriously injured.
Neighbours said that they rushed to help the family when they saw huge flames and dense smoke coming from the house of Yashpal Ghai (65).
Ghai and his wife were living with their son’s family.
When the incident took place, the members were inside the house, while the kids had already gone to sleep.
Ghai’s wife Balbir Kaur who was sitting in the courtyard raised an alarm when suddenly the fire engulfed the house. Among all the family members, she escaped unhurt.
Soon, the fire tenders had also reached the spot, while the neighbours took out the gas cylinders.
By the time the six members of the family were taken out they had suffered severe burn injuries.
Yashpal, his daughter-in-law Ruchi and a grand-daughter Diya were declared brought dead by the doctors at the Civil hospital.
Yashpal’s son Inderpal and latter’s two kids Akshay and Mansha were rushed to a private hospital where kids also scummbed to injuries. Inderpal is battling for life.
Police officials have started investigation to find out the reason of fire.
