‘Show-cause notice to teachers undemocratic’
Chandigarh: Terming show-cause notices issued to two teachers for lodging protests on social media as “draconian and undemocratic”, Punjab leader of opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday slammed the Punjab government, saying that it was “aggressively” suppressing voices of dissent to conceal its lies and failures.Attacking CM Bhagwant Mann, Bajwa said the CM often called himself the son of a teacher, but he still had no respect for the profession of his father. “He showed no sympathy to those who are responsible for building the future of our nation and Punjab. The people of his father’s profession are mercilessly beaten up by police. How obnoxious it is to not let the victims of the government’s high-handedness express their sufferings on social media platforms?” LoP added.Bajwa said a video of one of teachers, which was shot inside a classroom, had gone viral on social media in which she could be seen telling her students that the AAP government in Punjab wasn’t regularising temporary teachers like her. She was also seen showing her injured foot to students, saying she got injuries during a recent protest when teachers were lathi-charged.He said the CM had announced to regularise jobs of 8,736 teachers in September 2022. “Whatever this government claims in advertisements is based on forged information,” said Bajwa.
