Tandon banks heavily on Modi magic to sail through
Chandigarh: Banking heavily on the Modi factor, Chandigarh’s BJP candidate Sanjay Tandon counted works of the NDA government during its 10-year rule at the Centre.Campaigning in different areas in the city, Tandon on Monday said during the last 10 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi worked for the upliftment of every class, including women, poor, youth, farmers and businessmen. He said 4 crore houses were provided to the needy people of the country under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, free ration was distributed among the poor, free LPG cylinders were given under Ujjwala Yojana, tap water was provided in every house and self-help groups were promoted to boost women empowerment. As Tandon visited Maloya village in the evening, women voters welcomed him with loud cheers and flower shower. They also performed boliyan and giddha to welcome the leader. In a programme organised at the residence of BJP district vice-president Rajkumar Rana in Maloya, Tandon said following the initiative of the PM, one crore women in the country have become ‘Lakhpati Didi’ and the party targets to add three crore more women in the category. He said, “Congress remained in power for the longest time after Independence, but if we compare the rule of Congress vs BJP, then the last 10 years of the BJP will outweigh 50-plus years of the Congress.” He said even after 65 years of Independence, more than 18,000 villages in India did not have electricity. He said Prime Minister Modi started working as a servant after taking oath in 2014 and since then has worked to take India forward in every field. In a public meeting at Daria Panchayat Ghar, Tandon said, “The difference between the Congress and BJP government is that the Congress’s 10-year rule was full of scams and BJP’s 10 years were full of schemes launched for the poor people. So, I appeal to all the people to strengthen the arm of BJP for the development of the nation.” At the meeting, people demanded regularization of houses outside the Lal Dora, sought a community centre and dispensary. At a different event, Tandon assured the non-teaching employees of Panjab University that he would redress all their grievances. He said all genuine demands will be taken care of once he enters the Lok Sabha. Tandon listened to the demands. He said he would raise these issues in the first senate meeting and also take up matters with other relevant authorities.
