CHANDIGARH: Three days after the Chandigarh police filed a charge sheet against former Olympian and Haryana minister Sandeep Singh in connection with harassment of a junior coach, the Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday made it clear that Sandeep Singh will not be asked to resign from minister’s post.
“After giving thought over the issue, I have decided and it is clear now that Sandeep Singh will not be asked to resign,” said Khattar on the floor of state assembly during the ongoing session.
Khattar was responding to the demand of Congress party for immediate dismissal or resignation of Sandeep Singh.
Raising the issue in the assembly, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, leader of opposition said that since the minister has now been charge sheeted, it is the duty of the chief minister to remove him from the ministerial berth or Sandeep Singh himself should step down on moral grounds.
On this, Khattar said that he will think over the issue. However, when the Congress legislators started raising slogans against the ruling party demanding immediate removal of Sandeep Singh, the CM stood up and said “he will not be asked to resign”.
Hooda and former assembly speaker Raghubir Kadian along with other Congress MLAs also demanded for a judicial probe into the Nuh violence.
However, due to the protest by the opposition over the issue, the proceedings of the house were adjourned for half an hour.
