FEROZEPUR: A court of additional sessions judge in Ferozepur sentenced a rape convict to 24 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on him.

In her statement to police, the survivor's mother had alleged that when her daughter was alone at home, Harpreet Singh, a resident of Shahzadi village in Ferozepur, raped her and threatened to kill her if she told her family members about it. On March 22, 2022, an FIR was registered under sections 376 (sexual assault), 452 (house-trespass) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC against Harpreet at Ghalkhurd police station.

Additional sessions judge Rajwinder Kaur sentenced Harpreet to 12 years in prison for the charge under Section 376 and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.

The court also ordered 10 years imprisonment and fined him Rs 20,000 under Section 452, and two years in prison and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 506. The sentences will run concurrently.
