Punjabi Univ welcomes budget proposals of increase in salary grant & Rs 10cr fund for new hostel

Patiala: Punjabi University has welcomed the increase in the salary grant, besides keeping aside a grant for the construction of a hostel in the state govt's budget proposals for 2025-26 financial year.The salary grant has been proposed to be increased from Rs 375 crore to Rs 393.75 crore. This apart, a Rs 10 crore fund has been announced for the construction of a new hostel.Thanking chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema, vice-chancellor Karamjit Singh said, "This shows the seriousness and commitment of the govt towards the higher education sector. The govt has adopted a compassionate approach towards Punjabi University. This decision will help the university fulfill the dreams of students from poor families in the Malwa region."Registrar Sanjeev Puri said, "The govt's budget proposal will provide the necessary financial support for the smooth functioning of the university, helping it emerge from the financial crisis." The demand for hostel facilities has increased with the introduction of several new courses and an increase in enrolments, he added.
