Bathinda: Punjab reported 53 farm fire cases on Saturday, taking the count to 9,669. Ferozepur turned out to be the worst-affected district with a maximum 916 crop residue burning cases till May 23, followed by 749 in Moga, 744 in Bathinda, 714 in Tarn Taran, 702 in Amritsar, 686 in Sangrur, 635 in Gurdaspur, 622 in Ludhiana, 537 in Muktsar, 414 in Fazilka, 408 in Patiala, 390 in Jalandhar, 372 in Faridkot, 349 in Mansa, 345 in Barnala, 334 in Kapurthala, 236 in Hoshiarpur, 170 in Malerkotla, 135 in SBS Nagar and 119 in Fatehgarh Sahib.The legal action is continuing, which includes registration of FIRs, marking red entries in land records and imposing environmental compensation against the farmers.Madhya Pradesh reported 223 farm fire cases in the day, Uttar Pradesh reported 27 and Haryana reported 5 crop residue burning cases on Saturday.The total farm fire cases in the season so far was reported past 67,000 and out of it 38,400 burning cases were reported from Madhya Pradesh, which is over 57% of the total cases.
