His plea was listed for hearing on Friday before a bench of Justice Vikas Bahl, who recused himself from hearing it. The petition would now be sent to another bench by the HC registry after taking permission of the Chief Justice.

Sidhu has sought directions to quash the order of December 28, 2022, whereby he was removed from the post of councillor in a “completely illegal and arbitrary manner on the grounds of him merely being a member of a society.”

According to him, the reasons for which he has been removed is not a ground under provisions of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, and facts that e-tendering process is done by technical staff of the corporation and bids are opened by the commissioner had been ignored.

The society was given a contract only because it fulfilled the conditions mandated by prescribed procedure, he said. “…the bids are opened by the commissioner... There is no discretion left with the F&CC to grant any kind of undue benefit to any bidder and contracts are to be given as per procedure,” Sidhu has submitted.
