Man stabbed after he confronts sister’s ‘molester’

Mohali: In a shocking incident from the Balongi area, a young man who went to confront a neighbour for allegedly molesting his minor sister was brutally attacked with a knife. The victim, identified as Rahul Kumar (23), suffered serious injuries after being stabbed four times. Based on his statement, police registered a case of attempted murder at Balongi police station.Rahul Kumar, a native of Bisambarpur in Bihar and presently residing in Ambedkar Colony, Balongi, works as a lift installer. In his complaint, he said around 10 pm on Nov 14, he went to speak to Sunny Singh near a temple in the colony. Rahul alleged that Sunny had been harassing his 17-year-old sister, even threatening to kill her if she raised any objection.Rahul told police that when he tried to reason with Sunny, the latter abusing him and soon pulled out a knife from his pocket and attacked him repeatedly. Sunny stabbed him near his chest, on his left side, and on his back, leaving him critically injured.Hearing his cries for help, Rahul's cousins rushed him to Phase-6 civil hospital, Mohali, where he underwent emergency treatment. Doctors later declared his condition to be stable.Police said Rahul's statement was recorded on Dec 6, after doctors certified that he was fit to give a statement. Following a preliminary investigation, a case was registered against Sunny Singh under Sections 109, 115(2), 126(2), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) the following day.A manhunt has been launched to trace and arrest the accused, cops said.
