Man accused of theft in shop arrested

Times News NetworkMohali: Police claimed to have arrested a local goon accused of looting people going on the road or breaking into their shops and houses. He was produced in court on Sunday and remanded in one-day police custody, said Derabassi ASP Darpan Ahluwalia, adding that he was active in Mubarakpur area.The accused has been identified as Yusuf, a resident of Mubarakpur Camp in Derabassi. The ASP said that police nabbed the accused after a case was registered against him on the complaint of one Geeta Devi, resident of the same area.Police said that Geeta Devi claimed that the accused broke into the shop on April 21. She said that he stole 12 copper glasses, two pressure cookers and a cup made of bronze. When she tried to confront the accused, he pushed her and snatched Rs 2,000 from the cash counter. She also said that he snatched the money she had been counting. Police said that the accused is a drug addict and a habitual offender who committed crimes to buy drugs. The ASP said that a case was registered.
