JALANDHAR: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has appointed former Punjab unit president Avtar Singh Karimpuri as the incharge of party affairs in Punjab and Chandigarh. He has earlier served as BSP affairs incharge of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Karimpuri, who has been the party’s Punjab chief, said his appointment was in addition to already working incharges Randhir Singh Beniwal and MLA Nachhatar Pal. In July last year, in the run-up to Punjab assembly elections, bitterness between him and Punjab BSP president Jasvir Singh Garhi came out in the open when he accused Garhi of indulging in false propaganda against him “at the behest of other parties”. Asked about the unease between him and Garhi, Karimpuri said all will work together.
