Its INSO against ABVP for post of gen secretary

Chandigarh: Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has announced its candidates for the upcoming Panjab University Student Council (PUCSC) elections to be held on September 6. Amidst speculations of potential alliances, ABVP remains committed to fighting independently, fielding Rakesh Deshwal for the post of president and Avinash Yadav for general secretary.ABVP unit president Rajat Puri said that the focus of the party was on student welfare and academic matters, including teacher-student ratio. However, timing of the announcement raises questions in the backdrop of rumours about a possible alliance between ABVP and Indian National Student Organisation (INSO). INSO in-charge Rajat expressed confidence about their poll prospects citing a sustained and aggressive campaign efforts over the past 1.5 months.ABVP president Rajat Puri said, “We are up for a fight with INSO for the post of general secretary. ABVP has the largest student cadre and we focus on all student centric issues with our impressive ground work.”Last year, Haryana-based Jannayak Janta Party’s student outfit, the Indian National Student Organisation (INSO) registered a win on the key post of general secretary. While ABVP's performance was promising, last-minute speeches likely contributed to the unexpected loss. Sources hinted at potential pressure from the BJP in view of the 2024 elections, a claim that ABVP refuted. Sources said that formation of an alliance involving all parties against CYSS would likely provide an edge to the ABVP, leading to heightened expectations of vigorous campaigning.ABVP presidential candidate Rakesh Deshwal belongs to Panipat, Haryana and holds an LLB from Panjab University. He is doing LLM at the UILS department of Panjab University. His ABVP involvement spans various roles, from vice-president to hostel convener. For the position of general secretary, ABVP has nominated Avinash Yadav.
