Inaction: Vij suspends 372 investigation officers
CHANDIGARH: Haryana home minister Anil Vij on Monday ordered the suspension of 372 investigating officers (IOs) across the state for their inaction against complaints and cases pending with the officials for a year or more.
In his letter to director general of police Shatrujeet Singh Kapur, he stated: “Last month, I sought explanation from the IOs who had not finalised/disposed of the FIRs in a year.
1x1 polls
The number of cases were very high — almost above 3,229. I am pained to know that despite my instruction, 372 IOs have not disposed of the cases and reason quoted by them are not satisfactory. They are making people move from one pillar to another for getting action on their complaints. This is a very serious matter and cannot be ignored.”
The letter further read: “l would like all these IOs be put under suspension immediately and their cases be transferred to respective DSPs for the final disposal in a month, otherwise action will be taken against those officers also.”
The move comes after Vij was informed that one-to-five-year-old cases and complaints were pending with the officers. The home minister said this information was sought by writing a letter to the additional chief secretary of the home department on May 11. According to sources, Vij resorted to this action as the majority of the complainants approached him during the public hearings at his residence.
Interacting with mediapersons here, Vij informed that a maximum of 60 IOs who will face the action are from Gurugram, followed by 32 from Faridabad, 10 from Panchkula, 30 from Ambala, 57 from Yamunanagar, 31 from Karnal, 3 from Panipat, 14 from Hisar, 66 from Sirsa, 24 from Jind, 5 from Rewari, 31 from Rohtak, and 9 from Sonipat.
