Three women are among 18 people booked under the Passport Act for this forgery based on recommendation of the crime investigation department (CID) and intelligence wing attached to the Haryana chief minister. The accused don't live on the address mentioned on the application forms that mediators had filled.

Last October, the CID had submitted 32 passports for verification and an officer of the level of additional commissioner of police had found fake details on 18. This input has come from the regional passport office, which is re-examining the passports issued in Haryana since 2017. Gangsters from Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan are known to have fled abroad on forged documents.

Before they registered a case in Panchkula, Haryana Police had identified 250 holders of fake passport and their facilitators. So far, they have arrested 150 people in Fatehabad, Karnal, and a few other districts, while more cases are under investigation.

Fatehabad accounts for 100 cases and Karnal for 20 since October. Additional director general of police (CID) Alok Mittal said: "The Fatehabad passports were traced to some of Punjab's gangsters who have fled the country. The ACP's special team is looking at the Panchkula case."
