Implement ban on single-use plastics: CPCB urged

Bathinda: Warrior Moms, an environmental organisation representing the concerned mothers, from 32 cities across the country has urged the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to act tough and strictly implement the ban on single-use plastics.
Warrior Moms from four cities of Punjab – Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Khanna and Doraha – apart from Chandigarh have written to the CPCB, stating that despite the ban on single-use plastics, these continue to be available in the market, posing a threat to the environment and the health of citizens, particularly children. The letter emphasised that the non-biodegradable materials clog drainage systems, pollute water bodies, and contribute to mounting landfills. Scientific studies have also established the link between plastic pollution and health risks, including respiratory problems, endocrine disruption, and even carcinogenic effects. The recent finding of microplastics in breast milk has raised concerns among mothers. The organisation urged the CPCB to strengthen enforcement measures.
