Hisar court awards life term in wife’s murder

Hisar: A special court for crimes against women in Hisar has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife, in what is believed to be the district's first conviction under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on convict Ashok, a resident of Dhani Thakrian village.Pronouncing the verdict, additional sessions judge and special court judge Madhulika held that the prosecution had successfully established that Ashok fatally assaulted his wife Sonika on Sept 27, 2024. She died during treatment two days later.According to the prosecution, Sonika was found critically injured at her residence and rushed to hospital by family members.During investigation, police recovered a blood-stained iron tool (‘ramba'), blood samples from walls and other forensic material from the scene. The accused's shirt was later recovered near Hansi railway station.The court observed that forensic examination matched the victim's blood group with samples found on the weapon, wall stains and the accused's shirt, forming a key link in the chain of evidence.Referring to the forensic findings, the court observed that the "FSL report speaks volumes" and noted that the defence failed to explain how the victim's blood was found on the accused's clothes if he had not assaulted her.The judgment said medical evidence, postmortem findings, eyewitness testimonies and the police investigation corroborated each other.
