CHANDIGARH: In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old man was shot dead and his father was critically injured over the

land dispute

with family members in

Palda village

of Sonipat district on Friday night.


The deceased has been identified as

Devender Singh

, he succumbed to bullet injuries in hospital. While his father Saheb Singh too suffered bullet injuries in left hand, he has undergone surgery.

Devender's dead body has been handed over to his kin after postmortem examinations.

Acting swiftly, police arrested one person identified as

Om Parkash

on Saturday afternoon. SHO Vivek Malik of Rai police station said that interrogation of the accused is in progress.

According to information Om Parkash is first cousin of Saheb and the two had an old dispute over division of landed properties which included agriculture land residential houses. It was around 10pm in night when Devender and his father Saheb Singh had gone to fields. Om Parkash was already present there.

The three had an argument meanwhile, Om Parkash took out his double barrel licensed gun and opened fire on father son duo. One bullet hit Devender in chest while other fire hit his father in hand. Devender fell on the spot. Both father son were rushed to the Sonipat hospital where Devender died during the treatment.
