CHANDIGARH: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Monday claimed to have seized 19.5 kg gold valued at Rs 14.04 crore from the bank locker of an accused being maintained in Faridabad.
Punit Kumar, a resident of New Delhi, was arrested by ED in March. He had maintained the locker in the name of his mother with Indian Bank’s Ballabhgarh branch in Faridabad. An ED official said consequent to a tip-off, ED sleuths on Friday carried out searches of the locker about the proceeds of crime generated from various cybercrimes and concealed by Kumar in the form of gold in the locker.
Kumar is accused of several cyber frauds. He was arrested on March 3 at IGI Airport while travelling back from Nepal. Kumar is accused of defrauding people in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and more places.
He is part of a syndicate responsible for orchestrating cybercrimes and online gaming fruads across India between 2020 and 2024, amounting to illicit gains of Rs 4,978 crore, all of which has been siphoned abroad, according to ED. Searches carried out earlier in Feb and March led to seizures amounting to foreign-made gold bars weighing 8kg (worth Rs 5.04 crore), Rs 75 lakh cash, etc. tnn
