NEW DELHI: 32-year-old marketing executive, Sidharth Sharma, who died last week in New Delhi after being hit by a Mercedes car driven by a minor, was cremated at his ancestral village Saloh in Kangra district on Thursday.

His traumatised family, who are struggling hard to get the accused in the case punished, was inconsolable. "It is unfortunate (that we have) to fight to seek justice. It is high time that the government amended the legal sections. By not doing so, it is indirectly encouraging teens who commit crimes walk away easily," said Shilpa Sharma, the victim's sister. Her father Hemraj added, "No one in this country wants to raise their voice against the (corrupt) system. But we know the pain, having lost our son. The culprits were granted bail in front of me. It was a dreadful moment for me." He also talked about the caste factor, saying Had the family been a dalit, top political leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal would have rushed in for political gains. "Is it important to be a dalit to get justice? What if people like us suffer only because of wealthy and rowdy teenagers of the country," he added. tnn
