Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, has added another feather to its cap by being judged the Best Urban Local Body in the prestigious 4th National Water Awards organised at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
On behalf of MCC, the award, having a citation, trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs, was received by mayor Anup Gupta and Anindita Mitra, MC Commissioner, from vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The ceremony was organized by the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, and Ministry of Jal Shakti. 41 winners covering 11 categories were felicitated during the event. Chandigarh bagged this award beating Indore Municipal Corporation, which came second and Surat Municipal Corporation and Malkapur Municipal Council, which jointly secured the 3rd rank. While speaking on the occasion, the mayor said that Chandigarh, the well- planned and beautiful city, has achieved yet another remarkable milestone by winning the award.
