Arms smuggler held in Panipat; 6 illegal pistols and 43 live cartridges seized

PANIPAT: The Crime investigation agency-III of Haryana's Panipat police claimed to have arrested a member of a gang involved in the smuggling of arms and seized 6 country-made pistols, and 43 live cartridges from him.


The accused has been identified as Mahfuz, a resident of Baljit Nagar of the city. He is a taxi driver.

Police said that the accused was arrested from Garhi Chhajju village mod under Samalkha police station on Tuesday evening.

Inspector Ankit, Incharge CIA-3 said that they received a tip off about the smuggling of illegal arms in the area. Acting on a tip, the team raided the location and nabbed the accused. During the chucking, police recovered 6 illegal country-made pistols (3 pistols of 315 bore, 1 pistol 30 bore, 2 pistols 32 bore) and 43 live cartridges from his bag.

He said that during the investigation it has been revealed that the accused had brought these guns from Madhya Pradesh purchasing it against Rs 30000-35000 (each pistol) to sell at a high rate.

He said that a case has been registered against him under arms act at Samalkha police station.

Inspector Ankit said that the accused was produced before the court which sent him on five-police remand to find out the other members of the gang.

He said that Mahfuz has a criminal record as around 2 years ago, he along with three others was arrested with 35 illegal pistols and 45 magazines.
