Chandigarh: Another man succumbed to burn injuries during treatment in GMCH-32 on Saturday. He was among the six persons injured after three LPG cylinders exploded at a department store near Kila Sahib gurdwara in Burail village, Sector 45 on Monday.
With this, the death toll in the incident has risen to two. Earlier,
Munna, a labourer who suffered severe burns, died.
The deceased, Mukesh, a labourer who belonged to Lakhisarai, Bihar, suffered more than 60% and was on oxygen support at GMCH-32 .
Gopi, who was injured in the accident, is critical. The victim, also from Bihar, suffered over 60% burns and was kept on ventilator support. Others injured, Satish, Manish Kumar and Vijay were treated at GMCH-32. Doctors said their condition was stable and they were out of danger.
Investigations revealed that the labourers lived in a room built behind the department store, with only a wall separating the living quarter and the store.
On May 25, 2026 at around 6pm, they returned from work and were resting in the room. Gopi and Mahesh were standing near the door when three LPG cylinders exploded. The blasts were so intense that the wall between the store and the room collapsed, and fire broke out.
Police and area residents rushed the injured to hospital.
