Aiming to make animal husbandry modern, profitable: Haryana CM
Kurukshetra: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday said the animal husbandry sector will play a pivotal role in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), stressing the govt's objective is to make livestock rearing modern, profitable and sustainable. He highlighted vast opportunities in milk production, value addition, exports and start-ups, and said the state is strengthening animal health services, promoting breed improvement, expanding training and credit facilities, and ensuring better market access for livestock farmers.
The CM was speaking as the chief guest on the concluding day of the 41st State-Level Livestock Exhibition in Kurukshetra. Haryana minister Shyam Singh Rana, Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal, former minister Subhash Sudha and chairman Dharamvir Mirzapur were present on the occasion. CM Saini offered prayers by feeding jaggery to an indigenous cow, inspected the exhibition, interacted with livestock farmers, witnessed the cattle catwalk showcasing elite breeds, and honoured top-performing farmers across categories. He was also ceremonially welcomed by a camel at the venue. The CM also rode a camel. During the event, Saini honoured outstanding livestock breeders, awarding Rs 20 lakh to eight champions selected in male and female categories of different breeds. Each champion breeder received a cheque of Rs 2.5 lakh.Haryana animal husbandry director general Prem Singh said in the Murrah breed male championship, a Murrah bull owned by Narender Singh of Bursam village, Panipat, won the top honour. In the Murrah breed female championship, a Murrah buffalo owned by Ishwar Singh of village Singhwa Khas, Hisar, secured the championship.In the Haryana breed male championship, a Haryana bull belonging to Narender of Didwani village, Panipat, was declared champion, while in the Haryana breed female championship, a cow owned by Anup from Gwalishan village, Jhajjar, won the title. In the Sahiwal breed male championship, a bull owned by Anuj of Tarawadi, Karnal, emerged champion, while in the female category, a cow belonging to Rajbir of Dadupur Rodana, Karnal, secured the top position.In the exotic cross-breed championship, the male title went to a livestock owner, Pawan, from Saga village, while the female championship was won by Akshdeep of Galibkheri village, Karnal.
