abrogation
of
Article 370 last month, which proves that people have welcomed the decision, Union minister Parakash Javadekar said on Wednesday, and added that the move will being the people of
Jammu and Kashmir in the national mainstream.
The Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Minister of Information and Broadcasting was in Chandigarh to launch a public awareness and public connect campaign initiated by the city unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
During the campaign, the minister met globally-acclaimed athlete Milkha Singh, industrialist R K Sabu and former Army chief General V P Malik and discussed the situation with them following the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing journalists, Parkash Javedakar said, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been deprived of the development and progress that has been taking place in the rest of the country for over 70 years. Article 370 kept them away from taking advantage of the development schemes started by the Union government. Abrogation of the article will help assimilate people of Jammu and Kashmir in the mainstream and open roads for their development and progress. People has been deprived of schemes like protection of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, reservations for women etc. Now they will get all benefits at par with other citizens of the country.”
He said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will become direct beneficiaries of all development schemes of the government.
“Similarly, the people of Ladakh, who had been sidelined for the last 70 years, will see speedy development under direct Union administration. There has been no untoward incident in Jammu and Kashmir in the last one month, since the abrogation of Article 370. This clearly shows that people want peace and development and have welcomed the decision,” he said.
Javadekar said that the Narendra Modi government is organizing similar public awareness and public connect programmes at over 400 places across the country. Senior ministers and leaders of the party would meet people and make them aware of the situation as well as ask for their suggestions moving forward, he added.
Javadekar was accompanied by Chandigarh BJP president Sanjay Tandon, Panchkula MLA Gyan Chand Gupta and other party leaders.
