On Friday, when some labourers were working, the mound of soil collapsed on them. Ramesh (25), a resident of Sanyokara village in Karnal district, was resting after working till 5.30 pm, when the incident happened.

His co-workers, Monu of Kaithal and Balbir of Karnal, sustained injuries while trying to pull out Ramesh from the debris when a mound of soil collapsed again, burying all three. Monu and Balbir have been admitted to a local hospital.

Ramesh, Balbir, Monu and other labourers had started work after reaching Hisar on Thursday night. Rakesh, another labourer, said Monu and Balbir were rescued with the help of an earth mover. However, when Ramesh was brought out, after almost 2 hours, he was already dead.

After receiving information, the district administration officials reached the spot and found no safety equipment at the spot. Accusing the contractor of negligence, municipal corporation sweepers and other labourers reached the civil hospital to protest against the incident and raised slogans against the contractor and officials of the public health department.
