Heavy rain warning in 14 Odisha districts today

BHUBANESWAR: The IMD on Sunday issued heavy rain warning on Monday for 14 districts under the influence of a low-pressure area formed on Friday, which has turned into a well-marked system and moved towards Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand.

On Monday, the IMD issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Sambalpur. In addition, a yellow warning of heavy rain was given for nine more districts - Bargarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Kendrapada.

The state government in the wake of IMD's heavy rain warning has issued an advisory to district collectors to be on alert, said a government official.

Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist of the regional IMD centre here, said rainfall under the influence of the system would continue in the state till Wednesday.
