: Altogether 24 children of Ganjam district, who are suffering from congenital heart disease (

CHD

), on Sunday left for Ahmedabad for free surgery under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (

RBSK

).
The children, aged between 2 and 15 years, will be treated at Satyasai Heart Hospital, Ahmedabad, under the scheme that provides free diagnosis and treatment to CHD-affected children. “A two-member doctors’ team and parents are accompanying the children in Ahmedabad,” said chief district medical officer Uma Shankar Mishra.
“Doctors at the Ahmedabad hospital will conduct tests on the children after they reach on Monday and fix the date of surgery of each patient as per their health condition,” said Ganjam district manager, RBSK, Sandeep

“The patients were identified by block-level RBSK teams during health screening camps at anganwadi centres and schools. Initially, the children were treated at MKCG Medical College and Hospital and City Hospital here and Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, where doctors advised for early surgery,” added Tripathy.
Regular screenings are being organised in schools and anganwadi centres to identify children with CHD, he said.
Since the RBSK scheme was implemented in the district in 2016, 476 children have been successfully treated , Tripathy said.
