Farmers from Keonjhar and Kandhamal districts organized a two-day seed festival in a remote village of Harichandanpur block to promote the use traditional methods in agriculture through networking among farmers.

KEONJHAR: Farmers from Keonjhar and Kandhamal districts organized a two-day seed festival in a remote village of Harichandanpur block to promote the use traditional methods in agriculture through networking among farmers.
Farmers also discussed the advantages of traditional methods over use of hybrid seeds and chemical fertilizers at Dhurudiamba village, around 80 km from here.

They also took out a rally at the festival organized by MaaKamndei Anchalika Krushak Sangthan (MAKS). "We are organizing the festival to return to traditional farming methods. We are spreading awareness on the use of traditional seeds and farming through networking," said Arjuna Munda, a member of the sangathan. Farmers also took seeds produced by other farmers before returning home.
"The use of hybrid seeds and fertilizers supplied by MNCs pollute soil and water resulting in health hazards," said Dusker Barik, a social activist.
