BJP meets PCCF on wild animal menace in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: The BJP on Tuesday met principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) Subash Chandra Mishra here and apprised him about the damage of crops and killing of sheep by wild animals in the state.
Party spokesperson Sajjan Sharma said the elephants are damaging agriculture crops in different parts of the state. “The forest personnel do not track the movement of elephants and even struggle to drive them away.Besides crop damage, the pachyderms also block road by jamming traffic,” he added.
He said the farmers have faced drought, pest attack and then crop loss due to untimely rain. The elephant menace has created more problems for them. “The forest department should expedite the process for distribution of crop damage compensation,” he added.
The party leader said an unknown animal has created panic in Niali area by killing sheep. But the forest department failed to catch the mysterious animal, he added.
The party delegation submitted a memorandum to the PCCF and demanded appropriate steps to solve the issue.
