Berhampur: An additional five platoons of forces have been deployed in the silk city to
maintain law and order here.
“The forces will be deployed in the strategic locations, especially during
evening hours to avoid any untoward incident,” said SP (Berhampur)
Saravana Vivek M here on Wednesday.
He said police personnel in different areas of the city, including Lanjipalli and Ankuli, continued the flag march.
The flag march, led by SP (Berhampur), was held to build public confidence among the public, said police. The police have also asked Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) to ensure streetlight in all the strategic locations. Patrolling was also intensified across the city, he said.
The measures taken following two recent incidents, where miscreants brutally attacked their rivals in full public view, took place in
different locations. While the miscreants beat up a young couple at Giri Road on May 16 evening, the miscreants had attacked a
history-sheeter with sharp weapons at Ambika Nagar, two days ago.
Earlier, a group of miscreants had tried to kill another man by pushing him off Haladiapadar overbridge here.
Police said in a swift action, almost all accused involved in heinous crimes have been arrested. Five accused suffered injuries
recently due to encounters while attempting to escape police custody.
Police said search was on to nab the accused who remained absconding after committing crimes. “They will be nabbed soon,” said the SP. He said they had prepared a list of over 100 antisocials in the city. “We are keeping a strict vigil on their movements and activities” he said.
