True Cong workers harassed by BJP: Nath in letter to Chhindwara voters
Bhopal: After campaigning ended for the first phase of voting on Wednesday evening, former chief minister Kamal Nath wrote a letter to the residents of Chhindwara to remind them that he served the constituency for 45 years. Chhindwara is one of the six constituencies going for polling on Friday where Kamal Nath’s son and incumbent MP Nakul Nath is the Congress’ candidate. The BJP has fielded party district president Vivek Bunty Sahu.In his letter, Kamal Nath wrote, “Campaign for Lok Sabha elections ended today on the auspicious day of Ram Navami. By voting on 19th April, all of you will take forward the story of development of Chhindwara. You all are enlightened and know very well what will be good and bad for Chhindwara. Still, it seems necessary to remind you of some things once again so that your finger presses the button of truth.”Chhindwara is the hottest seat in Madhya Pradesh where the BJP has left no stones unturned in its effort to wrest the Congress bastion. The ruling party has broken away some of Kamal Nath’s most loyal generals and top party leaders including Amit Shah, JP Nadda and chief minister Mohan Yadav have led roadshows and addressed public meetings. BJP has put its former national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya as in-charge of the constituency for the Lok Sabha election.Kamal Nath, who represented the seat nine times since 1980, finds himself with his back to the wall. But he is still fighting his war against the BJP’s onslaught. “I have been serving Chhindwara for the last 45 years and I can proudly say that with the help of all of you, more work has been done in Chhindwara than any MP has done in his constituency,” he wrote in his letter of appeal before polling on Friday. “In Chhindwara, only 440 villages used to have electricity, and today electricity has reached all the 2000 villages. The maximum 6,000 kms of rural roads has been constructed in Chhindwara district, which is a record in itself,” he argued.Attacking the BJP, Kamal Nath alleged in the letter that the ruling party is actively trying to stop the developmental journey of Chhindwara. “It seems as though elections are not being held in Chhindwara, but a war has ensued in which all the leaders of the rival party are preparing to attack Chhindwara together. I do not take anyone’s name, but how many Union ministers, chief ministers, state govt ministers have been camping in Chhindwara for the last one month?”Kamal Nath claimed the Congress party’s loyal workers have been intimidated and harassed by the BJP. “You saw how they played politics of inducement and pressure and tried to break the true soldiers of Congress by intimidation,” the former chief minister wrote.
