MP announces Bashir Badr literary award
Bhopal: State tourism minister Dharmendra Singh Lodhi announced on Tuesday that the MP govt will start a literary award in memory of Padma Shri urdu poet Bashir Badr who recently passed away.
Lodhi made the announcement during a condolence visit to the late poet’s residence in Idgah Colony in Bhopal, where he met family members and expressed the state’s tribute to Badr’s enduring legacy.
Speaking with Badr’s wife, Rahat Badr, and son, Tayyub Badr, the minister recited several of the poet’s celebrated ghazals, noting the deep emotional and social resonance of his work.
Lodhi added that, after consultations with CM Mohan Yadav, the state govt moved swiftly to create the award to ensure Badr’s contributions continue to inspire future generations.
The minister said, “Details regarding the award’s criteria and selection process would be announced shortly, framing the initiative as a lasting homage to one of India’s most beloved Urdu poets.”
