Madhya Pradesh: Congress Candidate Vikram Singh Nati Raja, 11 others booked for attempt to murder amidst election dispute
BHOPAL: Police in Chhatrapur district of Madhya Pradesh have registered case against 12 people including Chhatarpur's Rajnagar MLA and Congress candidate Vikram Singh Nati Raja, under multiple sections, including charges of attempted murder.
The police initiated the case on Monday following a complaint lodged by Dheeraj Chaturvedi, the District President of BJYM.
The complaint detailed an alleged attack by Nati Raja and his supporters against Chaturvedi on the day of voting.
The matter started on November 17 when a clash erupted between supporters of Congress candidate Vikram Singh Nati Raja and BJP candidate Arvind Bhadauria. A Congress corporation driving Nati Raja's vehicle was struck by another vehicle.
Subsequently, the Congress candidate filed a murder case against 21 individuals, including BJP candidate Arvind Pateria, on the day of the incident.
In response to the situation, BJP State President VD Sharma met with Chhatarpur Collector Sandeep GR and SP Amit Sanghi on Monday, presenting a memorandum and accusing Nati Raja of orchestrating his driver's sacrifice for political gain.
SP Amit Sanghi told local media that the case has been registered against the Congress candidate and others under various sections, including Section 307, pertaining to the early morning altercation on November 17.
Assuring an impartial investigation in both cases, Sanghi emphasized the ongoing efforts to discern the truth behind the conflicting accusations.
VD Sharma, alleging foul play and influencing elections, pointed out the timing of the information provided to the police regarding the early morning incident on November 17. He accused Nati Raja of exploiting the death of Councilor Salman for political mileage, while insinuating BJP's innocence in the matter.
Furthermore, Sharma raised concerns regarding the alleged interference of senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh, accusing him of disrupting the peace and violating election protocols. He questioned the lack of action taken by the administration against Singh's alleged misconduct.
The BJP representative expressed dissatisfaction with the administration's handling of the case, alleging a biased approach and calling for a transparent investigation to uncover the truth behind Councilor Salman's demise.
He condemned what he perceived as Nati Raja's manipulative ploy to sway the elections and lamented the insensitivity displayed by certain individuals during the episode.
