Gunfire in Dimani, 4 BJP men hurt in Rajgarh
Bhopal: As the state went to vote, several cases of violence were reported across regions affecting the polling process in Madhya Pradesh. Some were clashes among party workers, others were cases of assaults and gun firings.
Four BJP workers injured in an attack in Rajgarh
Four BJP workers fell victim to a fatal attack in Nadalpura village of Biaora assembly constituency. BJP district general secretary Amit Sharma alsogot injured. All of them were rushed to Bioara hospital. Sharma pointed fingers at a strategic plan behind the attack, attributing it to the imminent electoral loss of the Congress in the Biaora Assembly. BJP candidate Narayan Singh went to visit them.
Allegations, clashes, and assaults in Gwalior
Minor clashes were reported after commencement of voting in Gwalior. A case has been lodged against Congress candidate Saheb Singh Gurjar from Gwalior Rural.
BSP district president Satish Mandelia alleged that Saheb Singh had threatened party worker Dipu Jatav over a phone call. Mandelia posted a video on social media, expressing concerns for his safety and an audio recording of the conversation with Saheb Singh, suggesting a threat perception. The police are investigating the matter.
A few hours after voting began, clashes erupted between BJP and Congress supporters in Thatipur of Gwalior East Assembly. The disagreement, stemming from opinions regarding the victory or defeat of candidates, resulted in injuries to one individual's head and another's hand. Additionally, a confrontation with the BLO occurred in the Kampu area.
The dispute took place between Deepak Sharma, Akash Jatav, Vikas Manjhi and many others- all Congress suppoters with BJP supporters. As the situtation escalated, police intervened and took control of the situation. No case has been registered but the sources hinted at an impending cross-case filing by the police.
In Kampur, a voter allegedly slapped a BLO, Abhishek Kushwaha. The police apprehended the accused, Prashant Rajak, and took both parties to the police station.
Gunfire and stone pelting in Dimani
Incidents of gunfire and stone pelting shook the high-profile Dimani Assembly seat in Morena, leaving some individuals injured, including a young man in critical condition.
Mirghan village in Morena, witnessed a law-and-order situation at two polling booths during the early hours. The situation turned violent with stone pelting as confrontations between opposing parties erupted. Prince Tomar, a young man, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
Police intervention was necessitated to disperse the crowds and restore order at the polling stations. However, authorities, including police officials, refuted claims of gunfire during the episode.
In a separate incident in Manharh village of Mehgaon assembly in Bhind, BJP candidate Rakesh Shukla found himself besieged by assailants. In a bid to protect Shukla, his security personnel resorted to firing warning shots in the air to deter the encroaching mob.
Bhind Superintendent of Police said that he had received information that stones were pelted at Rakesh Shukla. His leg is also injured. Shukla filed a written complaint about the incident. However, no FIR was lodged till this report was filed.
After this incident, disturbance broke out again in the village. Workers of Congress and Aam Aadmi Partyclashed with each other at the polling booth of Manhad, guns were fired.
A youth, Krishna Bhadauria alleged that Congress candidate Rahul Singh Bhadauria had opened fire and the bullet hit his leg.
In Varhad village of Mehgaon, two groups clashed with each other. However, later both were separated. A man was allegedly injured in the incident.
In the Ater assembly, gunshot was reported at Badhpura village. However, no one was injured in the incident. Bhind collector PRO Arun Rathore said that the incidents took place outside the polling booth, and it did not affect the voting. "No FIR was lodged. Except for a couple of small incidents, overall elections completed peacefully on all 5 seats of Bhind district," said Rathore.
