Brace for 36-Hour Water Supply Disruption Amid Kolar Water Supply to Be Shutdown
Bhopal: With overcast skies and cooler-than-usual temperatures offering some relief from the summer heat, residents of Bhopal are nonetheless preparing for a difficult stretch ahead.
Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that the Kolar water supply project’s gravity main pipeline will be shut down for essential maintenance from 10 am Tuesday until 10 am Wednesday, leaving much of the state capital without water for a full 36 hours.
“Repair work on the Kolar pipeline will begin at 10 am and is expected to continue until midnight, disrupting supply for nearly 24 hours,” said BMC city engineer Udit Garg.
The shutdown will affect major areas including Shahjehanabad, Nishatpura, Hamidia Road, Moti Masjid, Shahpura, Trilanga, Arera Colony, Tulsi Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, Char Imli, Chuna Bhatti, Kolar Basti, Nehru Nagar, Kotra Sultanabad, MP Nagar and Gulmohar Colony. For residents already coping with storm-related interruptions earlier this week, the extended outage adds to the strain of daily life.
Although the weather has turned cloudy, reducing the immediate pressure of summer heat, the disruption is expected to challenge households, hospitals, schools and businesses that rely on steady water supply.
BMC has urged citizens to store sufficient water in advance and use supplies judiciously, stressing that the maintenance work is critical to ensuring long-term reliability of the city’s water infrastructure.
Officials expressed regret for the inconvenience, noting that while the timing is unfortunate, the repairs cannot be delayed. For many, the outage highlights the fragility of urban services during seasonal storms and the importance of strengthening infrastructure to withstand changing weather conditions.
