Bhopal: Bhopal played a key role in making the MP team maiden Ranji trophy winner at Bengaluru on Sunday. In all, five players from Bhopal were part of the MP team. These were captain Aditya Shrivastava, Anubhav Agarwal, Puneet Datey, Araham Aqueel and Rahul Batham.
Coaches said that this year, Bhopal players not only made it to the final 11 but also performed well. “Anubhav Agarwal has been training under me for the past several years. His importance could be gauged from the fact that he was the leading medium pace bowler in the team with Gaurav Yadav,” said coach Bhuwan Shukla.
Anubhav scalped both openers including captain Prithvi Shaw in the first innings and helped MP restrict Mumbai to 374 in the first innings.
Puneet Datey, Araham Aqueel and Rahul Batham could not make it to the 11 in the final but they were playing a big role in the league and other matches. Arham’s coach Samad said that he was very new to the team.
“He is just 19 and he has a long way to go. He could not debut but soon he will make his strong presence felt in the team,” said coach Samad. Ghufran is the other coach of Arham at St Michael’s Academy.
