BANGALORE: MG Road's bougainvillea boulevard will be back soon, with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) beginning its restoration.
BMRC spokesperson BL Yashvanth Chavan said the boulevard would be ready by December 2011. Flowering trees would soon dot the stretch, with some favourites being gulmohar, copper pod and other species.
BMRC entrusted the restoration work of the elevated pathway to Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL), but with many more amenities.
The pathway will extend to MG Road station, and passengers can walk down to board the Metro.
There will be two toilets for the public, an open-air theatre, a plaza for sculptures, book fair, and play area with seating arrangements. There will also be a gallery to display artworks and cultural heirlooms, demonstrations and workshops.
A senior BMRC engineer said: "Drains will be constructed for the flow of rainwater. Later, work on restoring the boulevard will begin. It will take nine months to complete the project."
