BENGALURU: Three women allegedly cheated a 55-year-old man of Rs 70 lakh promising to get his son an MBBS seat at a private college.

Whitefield police have taken up a case of cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy against Anjali,

Malliga Biswas

, and Neena M Vegas.

The complainant,

Ravikumar N

, a resident of west Bengaluru, told police his son had completed

II PU

and wanted to pursue medicine. “He received a call from a woman named Anjali three months ago. She claimed to be a consultant with a private firm that could arrange a medical seat for his son,” a police source said.

Ravikumar asked Anjali if her firm could arrange a seat from a specific college located near an upmarket tech park in Bengaluru. She allegedly assured him of it against a payment of Rs 70 lakh. Ravikumar met Anjali at a hotel near RT Nagar on April 10 and gave her Rs 25 lakh in cash and Rs 10 lakh in the form of demand draft.

Anjali asked him to meet her at the medical college the next day. Ravikumar and his son did so around 4.30pm and Anjali introduced them to Malliga and Neena. The admission applications were handed over after Ravikumar paid another Rs 35 lakh.

The trio told Ravikumar he would get an email as soon as the seat was allotted. He received the email that very night and the following day, he took his son to the college for the admission process. However, the college staff informed Ravikumar there was no seat allocated for his son and asked him to file a police complaint.
