Swastic Union (2) claim U-14 title

Bengaluru: Swastic Union Cricket Club (2) bowlers propelled their team to the title in the KSCA Group I (I, II & III division) U-14 inter-club tournament at the RSI ground here recently. In the final, Swastic defeated Visweswarapuram Cricket Club by 12 runs.Opting to bat, SUCC lost openers Dhruv Akki and Arsh with 22 runs on the board. Nithin R (51) and Harish Bam (55) reconstructed the innings with their 83-run association for the third wicket. Sukruth J chipped in with a crucial 38 before Shwetansh RK (3/17) struck twin blows in the 42nd over. Akshaj Kathuria too picked up three wickets while Rithvik Kulasekar accounted for two as Swastic were bowled out for 187 in 43.1 overs.With a modest score to defend, Swastic bowlers got down to business. But Visweswarapuram skipper Rithvik (73) put up a fight with partnerships of 46 and 54 with Nalin Goyal and M Faheem respectively. But once Sukruth dismissed Rithvik in the 47th over with 14 runs required, Harish claimed the last wicket to see his team through. Dhruv (4-22), was the pick among Swastic bowlers.
