BENGALURU: With 112 of 224 assembly constituencies reporting more women voters than men, 50% of seats in the state now have more female voters, compared to 2018, when there were 67 seats with more women voters.
However, there are three districts with a total of 40 seats — Bengaluru (28), Haveri (6), and Bidar (6) — where there isn’t a single constituen cy where women voters are in the majority. While the number of women voters has increased, the number of women candidates in the fray has dipped by more than 15%, with on ly 185 women contesting the polls this time.
According to the final electoral roll, out of 5. 3 crore Karnataka voters, more than 2. 6 crore are men, outnumberingwomen voter s by 2. 8 lakh. Compared to 2018, the number of women voters has increased by over 13 lakh in 2023, while the increase in male voters is around 10 lakh.
A senior offi cial at the office of the chief electoral officer, Karnataka, said wherever enrolment of women voters is found to be low, seniorofficials will look into it.
Statistics show that there are at least nine districts — Raichur, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, and Kodagu — with 45 seats cumulatively that have more women voters than men across all constituencies.
