Yeshwantpur revamp edges ahead

Major structural works on Yeshwantpur station’s eastern side— including the entrance building, elevated road and multi-level parking—are nearly finished. Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said only minor finishing touches remain, marking a significant step in the ₹380-crore redevelopment.

2/10

Key upgrades still underway

Despite progress on the eastern side, key components such as the large air concourse and the western entrance remain under construction. These elements are critical to improving passenger flow and integrating both sides of the bustling station.

3/10

Modern facilities shaping up

Construction of the multi-level parking, holding areas and upgraded platforms is progressing steadily. The station is being designed to handle increased passenger loads and provide seamless connectivity with other transport modes.

4/10

Western side lags behind

Work on the western side facing the metro station is ongoing. New concourse spaces, ticket counters, and utility areas are being built to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency.

5/10

Metro link to boost access

Once completed, the project will include a pedestrian bridge providing direct access between the metro and railway station. This link is expected to significantly ease travel for thousands of passengers switching between the two networks daily.

6/10

Improved passenger amenities planned

South Western Railway sources said the redeveloped station will house commercial areas, food courts, dedicated holding spaces and upgraded signboards. These improvements aim to modernise the passenger experience at one of Bengaluru’s busiest terminals.

7/10

Ridership set to double

Yeshwantpur station currently handles over 60,000 passengers a day, but officials expect numbers to cross 1 lakh after redevelopment. Improved circulation, additional amenities and better multimodal connectivity are key drivers of this projected surge.

8/10

Cantonment station sees mixed progress

For Bengaluru Cantonment station, the minister reported completion of a 24-metre-wide diversion road and structural work on the southern entrance. However, northern-side construction and the new foot overbridge remain pending.

9/10

Brownfield challenges slow work

Vaishnaw said no final deadline can be given, citing brownfield constraints such as shifting utilities, managing train movement, safety restrictions near live tracks and handling high-voltage lines. These complexities have slowed redevelopment timelines.

10/10

Focus shifts to finishing phase

With core structures completed, the focus has now moved to interior finishing, utility installation and façade works across both stations. Officials say sustained progress over the next few months will determine how quickly both projects can move toward commissioning.
