A Dream Home Becomes the Site of a Tragic End

Murali Govindaraju, a 45-year-old tech professional from Whitefield, was found dead in his under-construction house at Nallurahalli. What was once the symbol of his hard-earned dream — a home for his family — became the location where he allegedly ended his life after severe mental and financial harassment.

Allegations of Harassment & Extortion Emerge

Police recovered a 10-page death note in which Murali accused Shashi Nambiar (64) and his wife Usha (57) — along with officials of GBA of repeatedly harassing him and demanding Rs 20 lakh in exchange for not reporting alleged building plan violations.

Pay Rs 20 Lakh or Face Trouble — Mother's Accusation

According to Murali’s mother, the Nambiars allegedly filed complaints, encouraged civic officials to harass him, and created constant fear around his home construction. She said Murali told her that Wednesday was the final deadline to pay Rs 20 lakh, shortly before leaving home for the last time.

4/6

Timeline of Dispute Stretching Back to 2018

Murali bought the 40×60 sqft Nallurahalli plot from a relative of the Nambiars in 2018. Since then, the family reportedly engaged in repeated disputes, dragging him between civic offices, police stations, and even court — a six-year cycle of pressure linked to the construction of his home.

Arrests Made — Police Launch Investigation

Based on the death note and the family’s FIR, police arrested Shashi and Usha on charges of abetment to suicide and extortion and are now searching for their son Varun. Officials from the Greater Bengaluru Authority who allegedly participated in the harassment are currently under investigation.

A Family Left Shattered

Murali leaves behind his wife and two young daughters, who were waiting to move into the home he worked so hard to build. His family is now fighting for justice and strong legal action against those accused of driving him to the extreme step.
