Almost a decade on, Gattahalli road near tech corridor in Bengaluru yet to be fixed: Residents
Bengaluru: The 5.7-kilometre stretch of Gattahalli Main Road, a key connector between Huskur Main Road and Sarjapur Main Road via Doddakannalli–Chikkanayakanahalli Road in the city's tech corridor, has remained in a deplorable state for nearly eight years, say residents."The condition of (near ) is a complete disgrace. It looks even worse than the roads people saw back in the 1970s and 80s. Instead of being properly developed, the stretch is filled with mud, uneven surfaces, and countless potholes, with not even a trace of proper black-topping," said Mitilesh Kumar, founder of Civic Opposition of India.Residents say the situation is worsening with every passing monsoon, turning the road into a slushy, traffic-choked nightmare. "We pay road tax, property tax, and even bear cess, but we don't see basic infrastructure in return. Vehicles get damaged within months, traffic crawls, and accidents are becoming more frequent," said Arvind R, a resident of Chikkanayakanahalli. The condition has also started affecting people's health. "My wife uses this road daily and constantly complains of a backache. There are numerous potholes and the GBA () simply dumps mud as a quick fix. Each time it rains, the stretch turns skiddy — she even injured herself once. From Gattahalli to Huskur village, the entire stretch is horrible," said Akash Saxena, a resident of Brigade Gem, Chikkanayakanahalli. He added heavy dump trucks worsen the situation: "These trucks crush the road surface further. With a little sun, the mud dries and craters appear again; when it rains, the same road turns into a slush pool."With several new villa projects and apartment complexes mushrooming in the area, lack of infrastructure has left both new buyers and existing residents frustrated. "Developers are selling luxury flats here, but the roads outside look like a forgotten village track. GBA is quick to collect revenue but turns a blind eye to our suffering," said Pragalb Jain, a commuter who uses the stretch daily.Parents, too, are worried about the safety of children travelling to school. "School buses struggle on this road every morning. It is dangerous for children to be jolted in traffic that gets stuck for hours on a road that should ideally take just 15 minutes to cross," said Meghana K, a mother of two from Gattahalli.A senior GBA road infrastructure engineer said they are waiting for funds to be allocated to repair these roads. "With the formation of GBA, the allocation of funds has taken a back seat due to which we haven't taken up new works. Soon we will begin this work too," said the engineer. But B Shivanna, MLA Anekal, said there are insufficient funds to fix the road. "We are aware of the issue. But due to monsoon and lack of funds from the govt, we are unable to fix the road." Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Happy Dhanteras wishes, messages and shubh muhurat !
