Bareilly: The son of jailed Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC) chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan was detained by police in Shahjahanpur after a suspected narcotic substance was allegedly found in his possession. Farman Khan, 30, who lives in Australia, was booked under Section 22 (punishment for contravention in relation to psychotropic substances) of the NDPS Act after police recovered a packet of white powder, weighing about 0.5 g, along with a syringe from his car following an accident.The accident occurred around 8pm on the Lucknow–Delhi National Highway in the Tilhar area. SSP Shahjahanpur Rajesh Dwivedi told TOI on Wednesday, "Farman rammed his car into a roadways bus parked on the roadside." While the front portion of the car was badly damaged, Farman escaped unhurt. He was travelling alone and was on his way to Prayagraj to meet a lawyer in connection with his father's bail proceedings, said police. After the accident, police inspected the car, including its boot, and found the substance inside a suitcase. Dwivedi said, "The recovered powder was sent for forensic examination. Blood samples were also collected and sent for testing.
Based on the medical and forensic reports, sections may be altered." The SSP added that during questioning, Farman admitted to purchasing the substance from Delhi and said he had consumed 0.5 g through injection. Tauqeer Raza Khan is currently lodged in Fatehgarh jail following his arrest for alleged involvement in the Sept 26 violence which erupted during a protest in Bareilly linked to the ‘I Love Muhammad' drive in parts of Uttar Pradesh. It was alleged that Tauqeer Raza and another member of the organisation incited members of the Muslim community to gather and protest against the authorities. A total of 11 cases were registered in connection with the incident, with Tauqeer Raza named as an accused in 10.
