Pilibhit: A sub-inspector posted at Deoria police station was assaulted in Muria Bhagwantpur village of Pilibhit on Monday, allegedly by the husband of the village head and his associates.
Police said sub-inspector Akhilesh Singh Chauhan, 50, had gone to the village to collect documents from the village head in connection with an investigation. The accused, Vimal Mishra, allegedly kept delaying the request, which led to a confrontation.

The injured officer was taken to a local primary health centre for medical examination. Dr Tapas Tripathi said Chauhan sustained internal injuries to his head and ear. He was later referred to the Autonomous State Medical College hospital at the district headquarters.
Bisalpur circle officer Pragati Singh Chauhan later reached the village with police personnel, reviewed the situation and directed the SHO to take action against those involved.
